About FYA:
The Foster Youth Agenda is a grass root, non-profit organization that is faith-based. We are a youth council comprised of 12 current and former foster youth between the ages of 15 and 21 who have been in out-of-home placement for at least one year. We are a youth-operated and youth-driven council that exists to inform, to educate, and to influence the outcomes of foster youth. We are foster youth making life better for foster youth by…
1) Increasing public awareness about the challenges faced by foster youth, and about the policies that affect the delivery of services to this neglected population.
2) Providing opportunities for open communication between all parties of the foster care community (foster youth, foster parents, mental health workers, state and social service agencies, and local and state decision-makers)
3) Informing foster youth about services that are available in their communities, and how to get connected to them
4) Providing youth friendly information on how local, state and national systems work, and how the decisions made at these levels impact the success of youth exiting care
5) Encouraging youth who are aging out of foster care to understand and fulfill their leadership responsibility to other youth-in-care.
