About FYA: |
The
Foster Youth Agenda is a grass root, non-profit
organization that is faith-based. We are a
youth council comprised of 12 current and
former foster youth between the ages of 15
and 21 who have been in out-of-home placement
for at least one year. We are a youth-operated
and youth-driven council that exists to inform,
to educate, and to influence the outcomes
of foster youth. We are foster youth making
life better for foster youth by…
1) Increasing public awareness
about the challenges faced by foster youth,
and about the policies that affect the delivery
of services to this neglected population.
2) Providing opportunities
for open communication between all parties
of the foster care community (foster youth,
foster parents, mental health workers, state
and social service agencies, and local and
state decision-makers)
3) Informing foster youth
about services that are available in their
communities, and how to get connected to them
4) Providing youth friendly
information on how local, state and national
systems work, and how the decisions made at
these levels impact the success of youth exiting
care
5) Encouraging youth who
are aging out of foster care to understand
and fulfill their leadership responsibility
to other youth-in-care. |
