| History: |
The
Iowa Youth Connections Council (IYCC) was
created in December of 2001 by the Department
of Human Services (DHS). It is a way for the
youth of Iowa to be involved in the system
that serves them. The purpose of creating
this Council was to have youth give input
on foster care issues and to involve youth
in meetings, trainings and other activities
to improve the foster care system in Iowa. |

Joining IYCC: |
New
members will join the Council at either the
Spring or Fall Retreat. If you are interested
in this opportunity to represent the foster
care youth of Iowa, please complete the application
and return it to the Youth Policy Insitute of
Iowa (address on the application). As new applications
are received, there will be a phone interview
done with the applicant. New members who are
selected will begin serving their one-year term
at either the Spring or Fall Retreat Council,
which ever is closer. |

Attention all teens in foster care in Iowa. We will be having a statewide teen conference - Teen Voices 2004 - on Saturday, August 7th. Check with your foster parents, group home staff, DHS caseworkers, or contact me and I can get you the information. We are hoping 150 youth will join us for a day of learning and fun. |

It is a snowing day here in Iowa!! That will not delay us in having our next statewide IYCC meeting this Saturday, February 7th.
We will be planning the June retreat (if interested in joining the Council see information above) and a one-day teen conference for August 2004 that will be open to all youth in care that are 14 or older.
