Contacting
Your Caseworker
These
examples aren't meant to tell you what to do in every situation,
but they should give you some guidelines to follow in deciding when
to contact you caseworker, and when to hold off. You won't ever
get in trouble for contacting your caseworker, but these guidelines
can help you be considerate of their busy schedules:
Great
reasons to call your caseworker RIGHT NOW.
> Physical harm or threats going
on in your foster home
> Sexual harrassment or sexual abuse
in your foster home, by a counselor, or at school
> Problems at school that put you
at risk of dropping out
> Problems in your home that are
so serious that you are thinking of running away
For these you might want to ask your foster parent before calling,
or wait until your next regular visit.
> You got grounded and now you can't
go to a school dance
> The rules in the foster home are
stricter than you are used to
> To find out if you can go to summer
camp
> To tell them about an award you've
won (they do love to hear about your achievements!)
> To get additional money for new
clothes or a special outfit you want
> To get copies of personal documents
like a birth certificate or Social Security card
Once
you have left foster care and are on your own, it is okay to call
your old caseworker for information of any kind thats related to
your time in foster care.
